I thought we are all using cashcards but…

By Patrick, March 7, 2010 12:34 am

There are still carparks that are still cashcardless (if there is such a word). I attended a wedding dinner with wifey tonight at Holiday Inn Hotel and I can tell you, for a moment, I thought I was in JB. First, there were no scanners reading the IU and we were supposed to press for a ticket to enter the carpark.

And they were signages that says that reminded us to pay at the machine before exiting. I’m just simply surprised that there are still such carparks around.

RWS changes Singapore’s Tourism Landscape

By Patrick, February 19, 2010 11:32 pm

10 years ago, you will never dream of a theme park like Universal Studios coming to Singapore. What you will think of is to buy an air ticket to Hong Kong or Tokyo Disneyland during the June or December holidays with your children or if you have more money to spare, maybe you can bring your family to US.

10 years later, when you alight at Sentosa’s Waterfront Station, you will step into Resorts World @ Sentosa, a new tourist destination that has Southeast Asia’s only Universal Studio and Singapore’s first casino. The place where the former Sentosa ferry terminal used to be is now a place thriving with activities. Even though the resort is not fully completed, you still get to see lotsa of tourists moving about. There were street performers whom I thought could be more engaging and more exciting and more variety.

On the way to the Casino, you will see shops of luxury brands like Cartier and Coach. Then you will pass by a passageway which for a moment, I thought I was at Resorts World Genting.

There was a sneak preview for Universal Studios which tickets were sold out and we couldn’t get the chance to enter to take alook. But we still manage to visit the Chocolate Factory by Hershey’s which was just next to it. Well, there were quite a number of different chocolates on sale and just to warn you, prepare to burn a hole in your pocket.

The place is in my opinion, not really ready yet. Most of the shops are either empty or under renovations. Based on the notices I saw, the best time to go is from April onwards when the shops and the theme park is opened. For now, unless you are going to try your lady luck at the casino, otherwise, you will probably spend an hour before moving off to your next destination. But I reckon, I’ll be back again maybe for my wife’s birthday.

1st Starhub TVB Awards

By Patrick, January 30, 2010 1:13 am

Its the 1st time Starhub organizes the Starhub TVB Awards, my first time attending an award ceremony and first time coming face to face with the Hong Kong actors and actresses. There are 12 TVB artistes who attended the award ceremony including their Steven Chen. Instead of the usual red carpet, Starhub has the carpet in green colour, obviously, its to suit their company’s official colour.

We were told to reach at 6.30pm and registration was a breeze. The actual “green carpet” show started at about 7.30pm and security was really tight. I even got pushed several times by the inconsiderate security who actually hit my camera lens. Anyway, the actors and actresses appeared in pairs and they included our favourites like Raymond Lam, Charmine Seah, Susanna Kwan, Sonja Kwok etc.

The actual show then started with the usual dance and performance with Susanna Kwan singing a LIVE version of 讲不出的心声. There were breaks in between for us to consume our 4 course western dinner. I personally thought the security was really tight, so much so, the security were so sensitive to the people around, asking guests to leave when they were trying to take pictures of their idol. There were no photo opportunities for the guests to take with their favourite actor or actress. BUT, I’ve got my fair share of close encounter, I actually went into the toilet at the same time as Moses Chan. But I didn’t have much to say cause I was caught by surprise!

Basically, everyone who attended brought back at least 1 award. Other than that, 杨怡 Tavia Yeung and 李司棋 Louise Lee both got an award. I believe everyone is interested with the results and here they are;
My Favourite TVB Actress:  佘诗曼 Charmaine Sheh
My Favourite TVB Actor: 林峰 Raymond Lam
My Favourite TVB Female Character: 荷妈 (李司棋饰)《溏心风暴之家好月圆》, 孙皓月 (杨怡饰) 《溏心风暴之家好月圆》, 钟笑莎/Sa姨 (关菊英饰)《溏心风暴之家好月圆》, 甘咏庆 (陈法拉饰)《溏心风暴之家好月圆》,邢晶晶 (郭羡妮饰) 《古灵精探》, 马帼英 (佘诗曼饰)《法证先锋II》
My Favourite TVB Male Character: 管家仔 (林峰饰)《溏心风暴之家好月圆》, 甘永家 (陈豪饰)《溏心风暴之家好月圆》, 柴九 (黎耀祥饰)《巾帼枭雄》, 于子朗 (郭晋安饰)《古灵精探》, 谢皇上 (马浚伟饰)《秀才爱上兵》
My Favourite TVB Drama 2009: 《溏心风暴之家好月圆》Moonlight Resonance
My Favourite TVB Variety 2009: 志云饭局 Be My Guest (TVBJ)
My All Time Favourite TVB Female Character: 好姨 (薛家燕饰)《真情》
My All Time Favourite TVB Male Character: 丁常旺 (郭晋安饰)《戆夫成龙》
My All Time Favourite TVB Drama: 《金枝欲孽》War And Beauty

The show ended with a toast of success followed by a group photo of the artistes and Starhub Senior Management.

If you did not attend the award, you can still watch the show on Starhub TV Channel 55 on 14 February @ 7.45pm.

For those who of you who are interested in saving the photos and posting it elsewhere, appreciate you can credit the blog. I’ve came across several sites which are irresponsible and shamelessly claim that the pictures were taken by them. For those who have credited, THANK YOU!

Lastly, all 325 pictures that I’ve taken has been uploaded in the gallery.

Starhub TVB Awards

By Patrick, January 29, 2010 12:20 am

The countdown has begin and in less than 19 hours, I’ll be attending the Starhub TVB Awards. I’m getting really excited, though I might be abit late for the event as I’ll be rushing down from Choa Chu Kang to Ritz Carlton. Stay tuned for the pictures and some of my exclusive insights for the event. In case you are wondering how I got the tickets, well, Starhub had a competition for their platinum club members, I submitted my interest and then I won the tickets.

Can we at least play alittle part to save the earth?

By Patrick, January 17, 2010 10:01 pm

I came across this article from ST Online and was fuming after reading it. The article titled “Not every subscriber ‘entitled’” was about not everyone being entitled a telephone directory. In this article, they interviewed a financial controller who had been collecting the telephone directory for almost 10 years but failed to receive his own copy this year, the reason, Global Yellow Pages printed less copies and the community centre ran out of hard copies one. So he mentioned that he was forced to collect a CD instead AND he said

‘I’m used to the hard copy. It’s more convenient to use. If you use the CD, you have to switch on the computer, load the CD in before you can do your search.’

Hello uncle, I’m actually entitled the telephone directory but just couldn’t be bothered to collect mine. WHY? We can simply get the telephone number that we want via our phone, laptop or even a phone call. You want to kill the trees just because you doesn’t want to load your computer? Its the 21st century and everything is going paperless to help save the earth and environment and I supposed this uncle should be collecting his bills every month in his own drawer which he can take it out once in awhile to appreciate it.

It makes me wonder, when can we start to be more responsible? To save the earth by using less paper and recycle more things around us?

Singapore is No.1 on SEA Games Medal Tally

By Patrick, December 10, 2009 11:51 pm

Impressive I will say. Though its just the SEA Games, but at least Singapore has the chance to be at the No.1 spot on the medal tally table. Don’t believe, see it for yourself.

So far, the gold medals were from the water polo team, table tennis, swimming and shooting.

The iPhone Journey…

By Patrick, December 10, 2009 12:36 am

Since Singtel launched the iPhone 1 year ago, I’ve decided that I’m going to have 1. But due to my mobile contracts and really bad experience previously with Singtel, I’ve decided to hang on and wait for Starhub to start selling it. 1 year plus later, finally Starhub has launch it.

I got my HTC Magic as a replacement previously and since iPhone is launched, I’ve decided to change it and trade in my HTC Magic, its not that the Magic is no good, but I thought, I just want to own an iPhone. This time round, not only I’m having 1 but I’m getting wifey 1 too. She was alittle hesitant cause she is really worried that she doesn’t know how to use it. Well, who knows how to use it when they first touch it, so we gotta LEARN!

We are getting the same colour, which is white, but I’m getting a 32 gb while hers is 16gb. She is really excited about it after seeing mine so I’m really looking forward to see her expression when she get hers. For info, she had not collected hers yet cause Starhub couldn’t process her re-contract voucher in time, so ended up, they are sending the phone to us. Excellent service I will say.

In the meantime, I will say that Starhub has done extremely well in terms of customers relations. They know that their 1633 line will definitely burst, so what they did was to engage their customers via Facebook and Twitter. And of course, it will be better if you are their platinum customer, as a platinum customer, my wait was just 10 minutes before I had my hands on my iPhone.

For more details on Starhub iPhone, you can visit this section that I’ve created to update all the related stuff.

Michelle Yim (米雪) made it once again!

By Patrick, December 3, 2009 11:47 pm

Yes, Michelle Yim (米雪) just won the Best Actress for Moonlight Resonance in the just ended Asian Television Awards. Apparently, she just touched down today in Singapore to attend this award ceremony. There was no LIVE result page and I managed to get the result from Joanne Peh’s Twitter.

Last year, Michelle Yim won the Best Actress for the same show at TVB 41st Anniversary Award Ceremony. Without doubt, I think she acted really well in the show, cause it really make you hate her so much (I mean the character lah).

Anyway, here’s a tribute video I found on Youtube. Enjoy.

Google Chrome vs IE 8

By Patrick, October 26, 2009 10:50 pm

My colleague told me the other day how good Google Chrome actually was and I was quite hesitant to download it at first. But yesterday, I decided to pop by Google and read up on the browser and here I am, downloading it and using it right now.

My experience so far;
1. Google Chrome loads pages faster than IE 8
2. Google Chrome has dictionary,  which is so much better IE 8
3. Its compatible with most websites that I’m surfing, especially my blog

So far, its just these 3 items, will add in somemore if I think of any. I just realised that I’m getting Googlicious these days. Using a Google Andriod phone, Google Chrome browser and Google search engine. What’s next?

Work Life balance

By Patrick, October 12, 2009 11:06 pm

I’ve attended my first lesson for my third semester this evening, and as usual, I was late for more than an hour and the topic was on work life balance and what kind of incentive will keep a person working. We were asked to do a simple survey, to see if we’ve got work life balance. It was a 12 questions survey with 3 answers, Yes, OK or No.

According to my lecturer, if you’ve got at least 10 YES, it means that you’ve got really good work life balance. As expected, I did not even have 10 YES, just make a guess how many I have. I personally thought that its not about how many YES you have, but rather, what do you want to acheive in life. Personally, I thought if you manage to strike a balance, it will mean that the work produced is just average standard. In order to suceed, you just got to make some sacrifice.

Its just my personal thoughts.
